ER PaxeraxauisHEsE, Aug. 4.--At about one e'clock this morning the villagers were awakened by cries of fire, and shortly after * the village bells rang an alarw. It was dis. covered that the large saw anill, shingle mill, and lumber wharves of Chiarles Beck & Co. were on fire, From the very first the fight with the flames was hopeless, the wi was blowing strongly, and the weather had been severely hot and dry for the preceding duys, and everything was like -tindeg. The sight was a mournful, but at the same time a magnificent one, A gallant fight was made to save the lumber and docks, but it utterly failed. The mill was partly cover- ed by in the C cial Union and Queen's, but the timber is a total loss, Phe switch of the Northern Railway Com- pany, just completed into the mill is badly jured, and oue of their cars standing on it was totally destroyed, The total loss over and above insurance will be from $35,~ 000 to $18,000, Great sympathy is felt for BAKERY!
