says :-- Weare gptian bonds; but the fact that the one out with irresistible by foul can the interest on paid by the Khedive, Again and again with almost wearisome forms of iteration, Mr. Vivian impresses this truth upon the 'English Government, The sooner the fact is fairly looked in tho face, the better will it 'be for all persons concerned. Mr. Vivian 'js the only authorired official mouth-picce of the Government on this question, and he speaks in no uncertain tone. The couatry is emphatically an exhausted one ; the last farthing has been wrung out of the unhappy J nts--by means which we would rather eerie. oin the vain hope of satisfying the insatiable demands of the Khedive's faropean creditors, But there must be an * end fo all things, and in this case it is clearly not far off. The Viceroy has not the power to pay the charges fon his debt, aven if ho bad tho will ; and it is as certain as anything can be that he has not the wil) oven if he possessed the power. The Mail says:--Belding, Paul & Co., Montreal, manufacturers of silk threads, are about to begin the weaving of broad silk. -- The silk will be made up entirely and direct from the raw material imported from China and Japan, via Now York, and in this respect the enterprise will .be the pioneer one of the kind in the Dominion of Canada, silk having hitherto been made from the floss, -- About 100 operatives will be employed, Kmveeroy, May 9. --The grain business at present is very brisk, and there will be no schooners lying up here as there were last summer, The reason of this is said to be the duty placed on American grain, Most of the grain which is being transhipped at Kingston now Is Canadian wheat, which heretofore went to the States, The Canadian millers were always unable to pay as much for this cereal as was offered by the Ameri cans, and consequently they imported an American substitute, Now, however, the increased price of the latter makes it profit- able to pay a little more for Canadian wheat and as a consequence' Montreal is taking all the wheat that is to be shipped from Ontario. A gentleman in the city has received letters from a great many shipping points in the West, and ail concur in saying that not a bushel of Canadian wheat has gone this summer to the States, -- News.
