Come and Examine it. M. G. ROBSON. JONES BROTHERS a@AGAIN IN THE FIELD 6 er DEAR SIR,-- As you are aircady doubtless aware, Mr, C. W. Joxss was compelled during the Spring of 1877 to retire from active business owing to 111 health. At that time a separation of the interests previously carried on by us was effected, the Dry Goods Depa:tment being assumed by J. A. STiruiNG, & Co., and the Grocery by W. M, Jones, Freedom from the cares and labors of un extensive business has so far improved the health of C. W. Jones as to induce him to enter the arena of business again, and the public arc hereby informed that a consolidation of the entire business has taken place under the old and familiar style of JONES BROTHERS. While making this announcement, we gladly embrace the opportunity it affords of expressing our gratitude to our friends and patron® who honored us for so many years with their confidence and support, and we would assure them, that if they should again favor us no- thin; will be neglected on our part to merit a continuance of the same, "As the country is now passing through one of the most severe financial crises ever experienced, we take the liberty of making a few observations respecting a system of business which prevails almost universaly, and to which, in our humble opinion, is attributable in a large degree, the still p iling dep and fi ial distress t the country, We refer to the system so long in vogue, of giving credit. We don't hesitate to gay that the fruits of that system have been the cause directly or indirectly, of ruining more business men than all other causes combined, It is the Cancer of the il ity, ing the sul of all by interest, while the incubus of bad debts burdens every merchant's ledger. He is not the only victim. Interest, Bad Debts, and the EXPENSE OF BOOK KEEPING AND COLLECTING, must be provided for and the merchant doing a credit trade must of necessity charge an EXTRA PROFIT to cover, if possible, these contingences. often led into buying more than they require, and when themselves confronted with an enormous bill of items which seems to abound in over-charges and mistakes. We frankly acknowledge tl public have not been encourage hat merchants ate in a measure responsible for the continuation of this system, from the fact that the d by a fair and liberal distinction in prices, to pay cash They assure their customers that goods can be bought as cheap on six and in some instances twelve months time as for cash. To every Intelligent individual the absurdity of such a system must be apparent, for no man living can afford to do this and do justice to himself. Having therefore seen the utter folly of attempting to do a Cash and Credit business at the same time, and having experienced to some extent the evils of the Credit System, we are now resolved on a NEw DEPARTURE, and are determined not to let our ambition to do a large trade outweigh our discretion, -- Warned by past experience, we have deliberately adopted tho CASH OR READY PAY SYSTEM, Believing it to be right and calculated in the end to prove the most satisfactory to all concerned. By avoiding Bad Debts, Saving Interest, Reducing Expenses, and MAKING EVERY DOLLAR WORK, we propose to study business economy, and thus we shall be enalled to sell goods at THE SMALLEST POSSIBLE PROFIT. Upon these principles we hope with your generous co.operation to establish in Port Perry, 8 GENUINE AND SUCCESSFUL CASH BUSINESS. The extent of our premises and our superior facilities for carrying on satisfactorily every branch of our business are so well known as to require no further r:ferenoe ut this time. .
