Arica, Iquique, Ponta de Lobos, Pabellon de Pico, Chanavayo, Huanillos, Tocapilla, Cobiji Mexillones de Bolivia, Antofagasta, Chanaral are nearly all destroyed. Only 600 lives were lost. The destruction of property is estimated at $20,000,000, confined moetly to the coast, although Tarapaca, 23 leagues inland, and Pica Matillo and Canchones, fa® in the interior were more or "less destroyed. The shipping of guano from southern depos- its is indefinitely suspended, as all facilities have been swept away. The destruction to shipping is very great. The American ship Alida, a German ship, and an English and Italian barque were lost at Pabellon de Pica, and others were damaged at Huanillos. The English ship Conway Castle was driven ashore and filled. She was thrown back by . areceding wave, and sunk in deep water, pi The crew were saved. The English ship | Conference was thrown on shore, and soon . after crushed under a mass of rock, The crew were saved. The hulk Gabriel Castro was sunk with all on board--numbter un- known. Several veasels were badly injured. The Governor's building, Water condenser, tanks, wharf, everything except a few huts at the back of the town were destroyed. At i Ponta de Lobos two vessels were lost aud fourteen ships injured. It is thought that the losses are greater than those of 1868, and | that the effect npon Peruvian affairs will be particularly disastrous. ! Sr. Louis, June .--C. W. Rodjere, General superintendent of the St. Louis and San Francisco Railroad, has just received iafor- mation of the capture of four of the band of ariscreants who run the train oft the track near Woodend station, on that road, last Saturday night with the evident intention of robbing it. lt appears a young man named Oliver, about twenty years of age, who lives near Richland, was suspected of having something to do with the diabolical deed, and was arrested on Monday and taken to Richland. Since then he has confessed and given the names of the parties engaged in the affair. George Gibson, Allen Greenstrut and James Long have been arrested, and are now under a strong guard at Richland, There are four others who are connected with the gang, but they have not been cap- tured yet. Young Oliyer says an ex-convict put up the job and led the party. The in- tention was to run the entire train off the track, and then under guise of assisting the wounded, to rob the passengers and plunder the train. Detectives Eagen, of this city and Deputy United States Marshal Langston of Springfield, Mo., are working the matter up, and arc on the trail of, and expect t> overhaul, the other scoundrels very shortly. All parties concerned live at or near Richland, a small town near the scene of their fiendish work. ramet late The Fate of the Missing Steam. ship. Bax Fraxcisoo, June .--~A survivor of the wreck of the steamship "George 8. Wright," which was lost on the coast some time ago, has been discovered in the person of an Indian named Coma. Coma confessed to the Superintendent of Police that at night the boilers of the steamer exploded, and she began to sink at once. Captain Ainsly, with four United Btates officers and a pass- enger, got into a boat and told Coma to get 1a too. The rest of the people were in bed or tried to escape by another boat. The Captain's party pulled ashore near Cape Caution, They were almost naked, and the Jndians gave them blankets to keep them wim. A day ar two afterwards three canoe 1 ads of Indians came to the spot. Four were armed: with muskets, with which they killed all the whites. They then robbed the 'bodies of all the valuables, and sank them 'with stones. They spared Coma, but told him if ever he dared to narrate the circum would kill his father, Coma " e on board who were in Hppe's Cocca. ~GRATEFUL AND Tox- G-- "Bya tharough knowledge ot the v ' ¢ of JUST RECEIVED To Consumptives. _ Consumption; that scourge of humanity, is the great dread of the human family in all civilized countries. 1 feel confident that I am in possession of the only sure, infallible remedy--now known to the professlon--for the positive and speedy cure of that dread discase, and its unwelcome concomitants, viz: Cararen, Asruua, BroNomimis, Nagvous Dmuity, &c.
