'WrEREAS the Toronto and Ottawa Railway Company has applied to the Corpora tion of the Township of Cartivright for aid by way of bonus towards the con- struction of the Toronto and Ottawa Railway to the amount of the sum of Twenty Thousand Dollars, and it is ex- pedient to grant the same upon the conditious hereinafter named. The construction of the said proposed Road shall be bona fide commenced on or before the Thirty-first day of December One Thousand, Eight Hunared and Seventy- eight and completed from the City of To- ronto to the City of Ottawa, except as to such portions of other Roads as to which running rights may be obtained as aforesaid, within four years thereafter, in default where- of such of the said debentures as may re- main in the hands of the said Trustees shall be returned to the Treaswier of the said Muu- icipality. 11. That the tariff for freight or passen- gers on the said proposed Road from Cart- wright to any point on the said Road cast thereof shall not be in excess of that from any point west of Cartwright to the same place, and such tariff from Cartwright to any point on the proposed Road west thereof shall not be in excess of that from any point east of Cartwright to the same place. 12. This by-law shall come into force and take effect on the thirty-fitst day of December, one thousand eight hundred and severty- seven. 13. The votes of the Electors of the said municipality shall be taken on this by-law on the TWENTY-THIRD DAY OF MAY, one thousand eight hundred and seventy- seven, at the following polling places, and before the following Returaing officers, that is 10 say -- For Division number one, at the Town Hall ; William Lucas, returning officer. For Division number two, in the Temper- ance Hall, lot number seventeen in the fourth concession ; Johu Hughes, returning officer. For Division number three, at William W Mason's House, lot number seventeen in the seventh concession ; William W. Mason, re- turning officer. And the poll shall be opened at nine o'clock in the moruing and clos:d at five o'clock in the afternoon. 14. The twenty ext at the Town Hall, in the msburg, at ten o'clock in the f \y appointed as the time and place for the summing up by the Clerk of the Municipality, of the number of Votes given for and against the by-law. 15. The twenty-first day of May next at the Town Hall in the village of Williamsburg, at ten o'clock in the forenoon, is hereby appoint. Axp 'Waereas for payirg the principal and interest of the debt hereby created, by | equal annual instalinents it will require | an equal, annual, special rate of two mills and pine twentieths of a mill on the dollar, in addition to all other rates to be levied in cach year in the said municipality. Be it therefore enacted by the Corporation | of the Township of Cartwright in the County of Durham, as follows :-- 1. That it shall be lawful for the Corpora. tion of the township of Cart- wright to aid and assist the To- ronto and Ottawa Railway Company by granting thereto by way of bonus, the sum of Twenty Thousand Dollars in debentures of the said Corporation. 2. That, for the purpose atoresaid, the Reeve of the said Corporation shall cause debentures of the said Corporation to be made to the amount in all of the sum of "Twenty Thousand Dollars, each debenture to be for not less than One Hundred Dol-' lars, to be sealed with the seal of the said 'Corporation, and signéd by the Reeve and "Treasurer thereof, and shall declare on the face thereof, 'the authority on which the same was issued. 3.
