A Juno Award-winning recording artist, Morgan performs his newly created, jazz-interpreted renditions of classic R&B and pop songs to the Jazz Room at the his- toric Huether Hotel. Th e per- formance will also feature his award-winning music and favourite jazz standards. You don't want to miss this con- cert. Th e band features Morgan on vocals, Darryl Joseph Den- nie on piano and as musical director, Roger Williams on upright bass, Jessy Ryan on saxophone and David Rich- ards on drums. The wonderful pianist Nancy Walker brings her all- star quintet to the Jazz Room on Saturday evening. Her work as a pianist and com- poser reflects her view of the times we live in -- at times intense, at times poignant, at times cerebral. Her most recent recording as a band leader is 'Til Now Is Secret (Addo Records), which show- cases 10 of her original com- positions. Over the years, Walker has built enduring relationships in the jazz community. As the pianist in the John Geggie Trio, she held the piano chair in the house rhythm section for The Ottawa International Jazz Festival's nightly jam ses- sions for over a decade. With bassist John Geggie, Walker has performed in con- cert with drum legend Billy Hart, contemporary drum heavyweight Matt Wilson and saxophone dynamo Donny McCaslin. She has recorded and performed in concert with the cream of Canada's jazz vocal crop, from Vancou- ver's Karin Plato to Toronto's Emilie-Claire Barlow, and has worked frequently alongside Toronto saxophonists Kirk MacDonald and Pat Labar- bera. Walker can be heard on recently released record- ings by Kirk MacDonald Jazz Orchestra, Fair/Galloway Quintet, John Geggie plus Donny McCaslin (this Plunge Records release garnered rave reviews and made several "best of" lists), and Swedish guitarist Mikko Hildén. Th e quintet features Walker on piano and compositions, Shirantha Beddage on multi reeds, Ted Quinlan on gui- tar, Kieran Overs on bass and Ethan Ardelli on drums. Th e Grand River Jazz Soci- ety is an all-volunteer organi- zation. Volunteers are always welcome to help greet patrons at the door and generally assist in managing the event. Friday and Saturday con- certs start at 8:30 p.m. For more information, please visit kwjazzroom.com.
