The former Toronto Maple Leafs great has chosen the St. Jacobs Farmers' Market to hang the commemorative banner -- a banner that once hung at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto. During opening night of 2017, the Maple Leafs unveiled new banners that pay tribute to the players that have had their numbers retired by the franchise. Beginning in August 2016 and concluding by the Dec. 19 Next Century Game, all 19 original Air Canada Centre banners will be delivered to the towns that these players called home. Sit- tler's banner will be the 23th delivered as part of the tour. "St. Jacobs Market is thrilled to have been chosen by Darryl Sittler as the home for his banner and we are so proud to pay tribute to his legacy by permanently displaying it here," said Sheila Shantz, market director of operations. The official celebration will take place Oct. 14 at the St. Jacobs Farmers' Market at 878 Weber St. N. in Woolwich. AdAm JAckson photo Breaking the tackle st. Sittler banner to be hung in St. Jacobs Laurier wins, Waterloo loses Both Waterloo universities may have played on Thursday afternoon, but the results were about as opposite as it gets. The Laurier Golden Hawks drubbed the York Lions 53-31, while the Waterloo Warriors were on the opposite end of a spanking, losing to the Queen's University Gaels 68-17. Laurier's win brings their record to 5-1, while Waterloo's loss brings them down to 4-3 from their red-hot 4-0 start. Despite the three-game losing streak, the Warriors do still have a good chance to make the playoffs for the first time since 2003. The Warriors are currently in fifth place, with the top six teams making the playoffs. But since they have a game in hand on most of the teams since their bye week is not until the last week of the season, it will likely be a wait-and- see situation. Meanwhile, Laurier is essentially guaran- teed a playoff spot, as they are tied for second place in the OUA with the McMaster Maraud- ers. If that tie holds, the tiebreaker would come down to the last game of the season, when the Golden Hawks host the Marauders on Oct. 21.
