The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m., when of- ficers responded to a park- ing lot in the area of Corn- wall and Trafalgar roads for a disturbance call. Police talked to a male victim and numerous wit- nesses who advised a 34- year-old man was crouch- ing down near the victim's vehicle and, when the vic- tim, "a visible minority," according to police, asked the man what he was do- ing, the man "allegedly yelled several racial slurs at the victim and assaulted him," Det. Ron Strauch said in a release. Police arrived on scene and say a man actively re- sisted an officer prior to being arrested. The victim incurred mi- nor injuries as a result of the assault, police said. A 34-year-old Oakville man is charged with as- sault, assault with intent to resist arrest and causing a disturbance. Anyone with informa- tion can call police at 905- 825-4747 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477. Torstar file photo CRIME POLICE LOOKING FOR WITNESSES Halton Public Health has decided to stop providing public updates on Saturdays and Sundays when it comes to coronavirus case counts and recoveries. While the local health authority has been deliver- ing daily updates on its web- site with Halton-specific numbers since shortly after the pandemic started, going forward, health officials sayforward, health officials sayf this will only be done from Monday to Friday, exclud- ing holidays. "These changes were prompted by a review of re- cent COVID-19 case counts -- for example, lower (posi- tive) counts and smaller fluctuations between re-fluctuations between re-f ports -- reviewing practices of other public health units, and by monitoring halton- .ca website traffic to the CO- VID-19 case tables," said a statement from Halton Pub- lic Health to Metroland Me- dia. "Please note that as the cases are not updated on weekends, the 'change from last update' can be expected to be higher on Mondays and Tuesdays, as new cases reported on Fridays, Satur- days and Sundays are cap- tured." Hamilton Public Health also recently made the deci- sion to stop updating its CO- VID-19 numbers over the weekend. The way local co- ronavirus data is provided to the public by health units has evolved throughout the pandemic. For example, in the early days when there were only a few cases, Hal- ton health officials would detail the age group, gender, municipality and COVID-19 exposure source for every individual. As the case numbers grew, the daily data shifted to aggregate numbers bro- ken down by age group and municipality -- Halton Hills, Milton, Burlington and Oakville. Further details about ex- posure sources by munici- pality can be found in Hal- ton's weekly surveillance reports. For more visit hal- ton.ca/covid19.
