SMITH, Barry Christopher

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Barry Smith on March 18, 2021, at Hospice Wellington. Born March 1, 1961, Barry is survived by his beloved parents, Norman and Joan Smith, his siblings David, Randy, Mary-Jo, Brian, and their families, devoted uncles and aunts Mary Cove, Tom and Mary Ellen Smith and Edythe Smith. He was predeceased by grandparents Janet and John Smith, Thomas and Mary Smith, and by his sister Julie Ann. Barry will also be forever remembered by dozens of cousins, nieces, and nephews. Throughout his life and during his illness, Barry was buoyed by the steadfastness of friends, including Joe and Lois Kus, and Randy and Margot Robinson. Creative and adventurous, Barry was an avid windsurfer - a member of the Colman Windsurfing team, a meticulous air-brush artist, and a connoisseur of music. Thanks to his innate sense of rhythm, he was a hit on the dance floor. Professionally, he was a welder, an antiques dealer, and a breeder of African Grey parrots. Personally, he was known for his sensitive soul, his exuberant laughter, and his devotion to friends of the human and animal species. The family wishes to thank Dr. Shannon Hutton, the professionals at Bayshore Nursing, and the many oncologists who treated Barry at Juravinski Cancer Centre, Guelph General Hospital, Grand River Cancer Centre, and Hamilton General Hospital. The staff and volunteers at Hospice Wellington also deserve generous praise for their expert care and sincere compassion. Funeral Mass to be held at Basilica of Our Lady (28 Norfolk Street, Guelph) on Friday, March 26 at 11 a.m.. In accordance with Covid19 protocols, there will not be a Visitation; cremation and private burial at Marymount Cemetery will take place at a later date. For those who so wish, donations in Barry's memory to Hospice Wellington or Juravinski Cancer Centre would be deeply appreciated.
