B CRIME FORMER HALTON EMPLOYEE SENTENCED T0 3 YEARS FOR DEFRAUDING REGION A former Halton Re gion employee has been sentenced to three years in jail' for a number of fraud-related offences that took place between January 2008 and April 2017. Halton's former public works manager Ni®vlas Rewa, 55, was found guilty of defrauding the region of approximately $770,000 through falsely awarding service contracts to Ham- ilton-based company Sir- ron Systems Inc. According to court doc- uments, Rewa used the money obtained to pur- chase a house, among oth- er items, and later trans- ferred the ownership of the property into his wife's name in an attempt to con- ceak. the source of the funds. . Norris' case is still on- going. Charges initially laid against Rewa's wife Mari- on have been dropped.
