Burlington skier Rodol- fo Dickson is.competing for Mexico ,in Pyeongchang, South Korea. The 20-year-old compet- ed at the world champion- ships: last year in St. Mo- ritz, Switzerland, finishing 47th i~ the giant slalom and 64th ir i e slalom. Rouolfo was born in Puerto Vallarta and was adopted by his Canadian parents when he was three. Rodolfo, who attended St. Dominic Catholic School in Oakville and John T. Tuck in Burling- ton, began skiing when he was,six on a family trip to Quebec. He then continued skiing with the Milton Heights Racing Club and later joined the National Ski Academy in Colling- wood. In 2015, he won a Feder- ation International de Ski (FIS) super-G race in Whiteface, N.Y., becoming the first Mexican skier to ever win an international ski race. He also competed at the world junior champi- onship in 2016 and 2017. "Funding for my sport has really been the hardest part leading up to the Olympics," he told ESPN Mexico in October. "I'm very lucky to have an amazing mother (Dana Sommers) that has sacri- ficed a lot of her income for my dream." Dickson's best result this season. was a fourth- place finish in an FIS su- per-G in Lake Louise in January. He also made his World Cup debut in Aus- tria in January at races in Kitzbuehel and Schladm- ing. Dickson, who now lives in Vancouver and trains with the Whistler Moun- tain Ski Club, is one of four athletes on the Mexican Olympic team. He will compete in the giant slalom (Feb. 18) and slalom (Feb. 22).
