Please keep our community clean: Councillor calls for anti-bullying task force ® Continued from page 11 ly," she said. Lo "It's not the norm, but I have experienced occasions where constituents will try to diminish my intelligence, or will make very insulting statements on- line, via email and when they call my office. Sometimes they - are aggressive.. Bullies act when they feel threatened, so I try not to let their comments and ac- tions get to me." The Post reached out to Hal- ton's mayors to see if they felt their female councillors were bullied and harassed more than their male colleagues -- Rob - Burton (Oakville) and Gord Krantz (Milton) said neither of them have seen their council- lors bullied, while Rick Goldring (Burlington) said he was "un- able to quantify the actual oc- currences or speak to the per- sonal feelings or reactions by in- dividual councillors." Halton MPP Indira Naidoo- Harris said she doesn't feel she's been attacked personally, but admitted she's encountered tweets and social media posts that are critical and an attack from a position of party politics. "Those are the things I don't even look at. I'm not interested in them. So, there are things out there that can be conceived as being negative," she said. "I don't see them as being per- sonally directed at me but at the same time, I tend not to pay too much attention to things like 'that because I'm more focused on my work and on that kind of unfair, bullying and harass-- ment." Naidoo-Harris did note, how- ever, that bullying directed at women in politics is something we need to examine as a society and work collectively against. Milton MP Lisa Raitt did not respond to requests for com- ments. = In Damoff's incident, her col- league Liberal MP for Central Nova Scotia Sean Fraser took to Twitter, to support her, posting: "As a man working in politics, 1 simply don't deal with the same kind of unwarranted hatred my female colleagues put up with ® See BULLYING, page 25
