Milton holds forum on future of Milton Education Village The vision for the Milton Education Vil: lage lands took a step forward Jan. 31, with a Town of Milton-hosted community meeting and workshop. Attendees were asked to offer their thoughts and ideas for the comprehensively- planned, complete ur- ban neighbourhood, in- tegrating post-second- ary education, residen- tial, commercial, em- ployment and recreational uses into a 400-acre site ° located south of Derry Road, west of Tremaine Road and north of Britannia Road, adjacent to the Niagara Escarpment. "This is an incredi- ble opportunity to imagine all of the possi- bilities for this neigh- bourhood," said Jill Ho- gan, director, policy planning and urban de- sign. "Think about what this place could look and feel like. Imagine a place you want to live, learn and linger in. We want to create that place, right here i in Mil- ton." Unbound by an es- tablished design con- cept, participants were" asked to think creative- ly and imagine the pos- sibilities for this site. Teams worked together with a facilitator to ex- press their creative vi- sion and bold ideas on site-specific maps, an exercise that yielded valuable discussion and feedback for Town Planners. "The MEV will be a game-changer for Mil- ton," said Barb Koop- mans, commissioner of planning and develop- ment. "Working closely with members of the community to develop a shared vision for Mil- ton's future is funda- mental to creating a successful plan." In addition to seek- ing public input through this communi- ty meeting and work- shop session, staff con- tinue to conduct ongo- ing, one-on-one stake- holder interviews, and are planning for a num- ber of future online and in-person engagement opportunities. To ensure the entire community has an op- portunity to view the information boards from this meeting, the presentation will be made accessible on the town's website. Boards will also be placed on display in facilities across the community throughout February. Members of the public are encouraged to pro- vide comments by emailing plan- ning@milton.ca.
