A Missionary. to Speak. Rev. John E. Fee, a native. of Camden East, will preach in the Presbyterian Church there on Sun- day. He has spent many years on the mission flelds of China. A Freak Mud Turtle. Mrs, Weaver, Ontario street, while out motoring on Friday, came across a mud turtle, which had on its stomach a picture of an owl. The eyes, legs, beak and even the claws, were quite visible, The tartle was brought to The Whig office. Had Dance In Evening. After the field day, on Thursday, at Odessa, a social dance was held in the town hall at night With a large attendance. The proceeds were in aid of the baseball fund. The mu- sic was furnished by the Odessa orch- estra, Is Slowly Recovering. Mrs. Jerry Donovan, Tamworth, who underwent a serious operation in the General Hospital, Kingston, on the 10th, and whose life was despaired of on the 11th, is now slowly, but surely, on the way to | recovery. Miss Lottie Ferris, a star member of the Supremes girls' softball team, is confined to her home, 399 Barrie t, through illness. Miss Ferris' bsence from the softball line-up will weaken the team. Her many friendi are hoping for 'a speedy re- covery. Bank Messengers Retire. Messrs. Thomas X. Rogers and Philip Filtz, messengers of the Bank of Montreal, retired, on June 15th, on pension. Mr. Rogers spent for- ty-nine years in the service of the Federal, Ontario. and Montreal banks, Mr. Filtz spent some thirty- two years in the bank's employ. Kiwanis Activities. The meeting of 'the Kiwanis Club on Mdnday 'will held at spe o'clock and the speakers will be President Clum Hanley and District Trustee Billy Moore, who will give 8 report on the convention held at Montreal recently. The second performance of the Y's Men's Minstrel Show was given days that it is here should be a big attraction te young and old. Black Bass Biting Bait. Black bass fishing began on Jvne 16th. At Cape Vincent, N.Y., hun- dreds of fishermen were scattered along the shores of Lake Ontario. The bass were biting in great shape. The first party out returned with eighteen beauties, and all during the day boats were pulling in with well rewarded anglers. To Teach at Lehigh. R. C. Cantelo, a graduate of Queen's University Kingston, who recelved the degree of doctor of philosophy recently at the Univer- sity of Cincinnati, will be assistant professor in chemical engineering next year "at Lehigh University, Bethlehem, Pa. Mr. Cantelo's de- gree was awarded 'summa, cum laude," 'regarded as rare for the Ph.D. Attended Committee. Ald. Reid, who has been|on the sick list-for some time, and who has begun unable to attend civic meetings, was able to attend the meeting of the parks committee on Friday at- terpoon and was warmly welcomed by his colleagues. His health is im- proving, ahd his wide circle of friends hope that he will soon com- pletely recover from his fliness. Purchases Funeral Car. Mr. M. P. Keyes, well-known local undertaker, has purchased through thé Central Garage a beautiful mew Buick six cylinder funeral car, built by A, B. Greer of London, Ont. The car is the latest production in funeral carriages, being upholstered with mohair with wood finishing in ma- hogany and having a double bottom. A removable flower tray is one of the features of the new production and it rests on a stand above the re- mains.
