The First Aid team representing the Kingston division of the Bell Telephone Company had the honor of winning the first prize in the coms« petition held in Montreal on Tues- day evening, and which was open to teams from the eastern division of the system, which extends from Trenton on the west, and takes In Ontario and the province of Que- . bec. There were teams from five cities, namely Kingston, Sherbrooke, Ot- tawa, Quebec and Three Rivers. The Kingston team, which was awarded the first prize, obtained #5 marks out of a possible 100. Sherbrooke was second, with 94.6. points and Ottawa third, Quebec fourth and Three Rivers fifth. The Kingston team was composed of E. I. Mooney, district plant super- vigor; L. M. Burns, central office man; U. M. Smith, installer; H. R. Hunt, test clerk; J. T. Craighead, ingtaller and C. F. Knapp, wire chief, who was captain of the team. A. J. Evans, district manager, and G. A. Mcintyre, district plant sup- erintendent, who were in Montreal at a conference, attended the com- petition. There wera. about five hundred. present to witness the event, including many of the mem- i bers of the staff at the head office, 4'W, H. Winter, assistant to the general manager who gave an ad- dress prior to the competition, told how_the number of accidents had been reduced since the men who are engaged in the plant departments of the system, took the first aid course. He made special reference to the way the Kingston district men had taken up the course, ahd said that at . the present time, there are twenty-seven Kingston men holding first-class first aid certificates and seventeen with second class certi- ficates, which was the largest pro- portion of any division in the sys- tem. The competition consisted of six} tests, which the Kingston team ex- ecuted in fine style. One of the tests was the first ald attention to be given a man falling off a tele- phone pole, fracturing his knee. An- other was to attend to two men who fell from a scaffold. The Kingston team was awarded a shield which will grace the wall in the plant department on Clarence Street.
