Judge Dowsley, Brockville, in the county court, heard the claim of Keyes vs. McPherson et al, ex- ecutors of the estate of Wililam Clark, Cardinal. The claim was [or $9,000 for services remsdered over a long period. His honor gave judg- ment for $9,000 and costs. Helen Irene Flood Dead. Helen Irene, third daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Flood, Soper- ton, died at_the residence of her parents in that village on Thursday following a brief illness, aged eight years, seven months and nine days. The deceased a bright and winsome child had been looking forward to her return to the Soperton school where she was to enter the third grade. Little Girl Injured. Struck by a falling timber while an old building was being tora down upon her father's farm, a twelve-year-old daughter of Jobn Corry, living near Inkerman, Te- ceived serious injuries, one leg be- ing, broken in two places near the thigh and the other at the ankle. Wilfred Cournoyea, who took a car from in front of the Methc list church, Tweed, without the consent of tho owner, Earl Jones, Thomas burg, and accompanied by two giris, Lily Green and Maggie Anlciron, started out for a joy ride, appear- ed before Police Magistrate Case- ment and pleaded guilty to a charge of theft, He will spend the next year at the Guelph prison farm. The girls, who did not appear to be unduly worried over their part in the escapade, were given a suspend- ed sentence of two months, Visiting Old ScCnes. Rev. George W. Conners, pastor of the Mount Forest, Ont., Baptist church, with Mrs. Conners and daughters, Misses Kathleen and Grace, are spending a week with the former's mother, Mrs. Theresa Conners, and sister, Mrs. Reuben Davis, wife of the reeve of Eliza- bethtown, at their home in Spring Valley. Mr. Conners is an old Leeds county boy, the son of the late Thomas Conners, Delta. Mr. Conners occupied the pulpit of his old home church, the Baptist church of Delta, on Sunday, Aug. 24th, preaching also 'at Philipsville Baptist church in the morning. Memorial Clock For Lanark. After months of working and planning, the Lanark village mem- orial association has definitely de- cided on a memorial for the fall- en soldiers of the war of 1914-18. (It will be in the form of a town 'clock placed in the bell tower. The |¢ {clock will be a four-dial, with hour and half hour strike, using the big bell for the strike. As the clock comes from Boston, Mass, and heavy duty would be charged the memorial association took the mat- ter up with the customs depart- ment and were successful in having the clock come duty free by order- in-counecil for memorial purposes. It is expected the clock will 'be ship- ped by October 15th and at the present time arrangements are be- ing planned for a big memorial ser- vice in Lanark village on Armis- tice Day. The names of the deceas- ed soldiers will be placed on a tab- let 'which will be erected in some suitable public pligce where it will be readily viewed by the travelling public. DIED AT WESTPORT. Highly ed. Westport, Aug. 26.--On Friday morning, Aug. 15th, at the home of her niece, Mrs. M. E. Bennett, Miss Ellen Kelly passed away peacefully after a long illness. Deceased was born in Westport, sixty-nine years ago and spent her whole life here. The late Miss Kelly was a lady highly esteemed and beloved by all and innumerable friends will regret her death. She leaves to mourn her loss one Sister, Mrs. Kate McCann, Westport. The funeral mass was celebrated Saturday morning at nine o'clock in St. Edward's church by Rev. Father Whelan after which the remains were conveyed to their last resting place in the cemetery at Bedford. R. Blair, Detlor, is visiting his parents Mr. and Mrs. D. Blair.
