Blue-jay JACK DAW'S ADVENTURES Engaging Teachers The Pembroke Board of Educa- In the Frozen North + While Jack stood, looking around, Flip suddenly sniffed several times and then dashed down a narrow passageway. "Come back here!" shouted Jack. But Flip was out of sight in an instant. Jack figured that something was up so he ran after his dog to see what it was. After turning a few corners, and working his way through great piles of trunks and boxes, the little adventurer came to a small open door- way. Then he heard Flip whine. Stepping inside the door, Jack dis- covered that he was in the ship kitchen. And so was Flip. The odor of cooking fish had attragted the dog and Jack found him trying to pull a pan off thé stove. The cook was so startled when Flip dashed into the room that he jumped upon a table. "Hey, you!" shout- ed the cook, "get your dog out of here!" (Continued). James Cumberland, King- ston, writing on the church union question, says: "There are seventy- three thousand loyal Presbyterians pledged to remain within the fold of their historic church, and the ranks of those who are not prepared to scrap the Confession of Faith and Shorter Catechism are daily being added to. The sald fact is that the General Assembly does not now and never has adequately represented the church on this great question. Had the church (the people) been allow- ed to speak, the present deplorable condition could not have existed." Cheese Price Up Again. Shooting Ground Hogs. This papeér recently stated that a farmer who last year destroyed 109 ground hogs, had this year killed only killed 17. The experience this year of Ernest C. Anderson, of Port- land, R. R. No. 2, is :uite different. Qate this year he has shot over ty of the animals in his spare time. borhood. One day he shot nine with the same number of .32 long bullets. Another day he destroyed seven in about twenty minutes. Another time he killed two, which were close together, with the one bullet. Walk- ing a mile along the road from a neighbor's one night he hit five. He cliams that they are aestrucitve to gardens, both by way of eating the plants and by digging holes in the garden. He thinks the Government showid offer a bounty for them, even if it were only enough to cover the > of ammunition. Application is the price to be paid for mental acquisition.
