Tea growers have found from ex- perience that it 18 necessary to pach tea in air-tight metal-lined chests as soon after plucking as possible to preserve the flavor and goodness of the leaf, Equally so is an air-tigh package necessary for retailing tea, and for that reason, the "SALADA" air-tight aluminum package is the most practical way of preserving tea- flavor that is known. Bulk tea is al- ways poorer in flavor since it is ex- posed to air.--Advt. Dn ------ Buy Park for Race Meets. ; Nine Smith's Falls local citizens, including business and professional men have formed a syndicate and purchased the property just outside the town known as Ryan's Park, which will in future be known as Strathcona Park. The Whig has received a very in- teresting booklet regarding *'Camp Frontenac" on the St. Lawrence river, five miles from Kingston, which has been established as a sum. mer recreation camp for girls. The principals are M. Edith Foofbourrow principals are M. Edith Loofbourrow grounds comprise sixty acres, part island, part mainland. The activities for the camp comprise a very inter- esting programme, The booklet con- tains some very beautiful river scenes around the camp and is very | attractive. It is of interest to note that the principals of this summer camp visited Kingston and district with a view to establishing a camp at one of the "beanty spots" and that they succeeded im securing an ideal spot, goes without saying. | { Has a Fine School. | Frankford is proud of its néw $60,000 school of eight rooms, Situ- ated on the brow of a gentle rising slope which overlooks Trent street and the river, the edifice is not only an imposing structure but a valuable asset to the enterprising village of Frankford, comparing most favor- ably with the schools of other towns and villages of much larger size. It has a continuation school on the up- per floors. ------------ The Late P. J. Dowdall. The death occurred in St. Francis General Hospital, Smith's Falls, of Peter Joseph Dowdall, after a short illness. Deceased was fifty-seven years of age and moved to Smith's Falls from Perth to reside some time ago, His wife is left to mourn his passing. 'The remains were placed in the public vault to await inter- ment at Perth. Deceased was a Ro- man Catholic in religion. Died in Pembroke Hospital. Death came after a very brief - | ness from pneumofiia on Thursday, | to Robert Johnston, Beachburg, in | his sixty-fourth year. Mr. Johnston, well known throughout the county as a plano agent, went to Pembroke | six weeks ago, in the course of his business. (A few days ago he was seized with an attack of pneumonia. | On Monday he was taken to the Cot. tage hospital{ where he passed away. He was born in Beachburg on July 7th, 1860, the son of the late Mr. | and Mrs. John Johnston. Property Transfers. The farm belonging to the late C. | E. Britton, and which lied east of Charles and William 'streets on both | sides of King street, Gananoque, has been purchased by W. V. Bulloch for $12,000. This property has been under lease for some years to Maplecroft Farm, and will now be- cSme a part of it. James Cowan, dairyman, has pur- chased from W. Roald Amundsen, noted ex- plorer, is in Denmark making reparations . for his aero fight to the North Pole this coming spring. , Farmers Short of Help. During the past week, the local representative of the Ontario Gov- ernment Labor employment bureau has received a number of requests from farmers who are in need of experi¢nced help. The farmers in most cases are willing to pay good wages providing they get men who are accustomed to work on the farm and can milk cows. On Wednes- day when a representative of the Whig was in the Labor Bureau a farmer came in and stated that he was right up against it for help and unless he could get a good man it would be necessary-for him to dis- pose of some of his stock. It is understood that there are a number of experienced farm helpers being brought from the old country, but the great trouble is that these understand farm conditions in the old land, but thé¥ havé to be taught the Canadian way when they arrive here, . The Lumbermen Busy. Vennachar, March 8.--The thaw this week stopped lumbermen from drawing pulp wood but they are again hauling with full force. R. D. William Stuffels is engaged with his team to draw timber for Messrs. Jackson and Gregg. On J. D. Flake's Limit, near Buckshot Lake, J. 8.
