Hamilton, March 1.--(To the Edi- tor): Nova Scotia has been min-| ing and shipping coal for the past | fifty years and all this part of On. | tario\ has been using some coal for | A similar period, the quantity con- | potant bec@ming greater, until to- we use about 10,000,000 tons anaually. Much as Ontario would lke to have used all Capadian fuel for | many -years past, no private enter- | prise has been organized to trans- port, via water, Nova Scotia coal to Ontario. So if the government un- dertook this now, it could not be said that it was Interfering with private enterprise, and if it did, personallly, I don't regard that as any crime, or even a sin, but ix case of necessity or emergency rather at blessing. 2 With a considerable number of idle government Merchant + Marine boats tied up In idleness in the vicin- ity of Montreal, rapidly deteriorat- ing, the only explanation offered, as | far as I know, is that their large, heavy engines, boilers and machin- ery, are placed in the centre of the vessels, which with necessary fuel accommodation leaves little or, nd' roof for cargo. Dean Starr Announces Mission By Bishop of Montreal. In a strong and practical sermon. the Dean of Ontario, preaching In St. George's cathedral on Sunday morning, set forth the purpose of Lent as a'time of spiritual refresh- ment and of ascertaining where we ourselves stand in our Christian be- llet ang life. The dean referred to a good side to the controversy going on in the United States at present It was making men think. On a crowded train he saw a well-known business man reading the Bible. He knew him and ventured to question him on the matter. The man said, "1 believed in the doctrines Of the church because I learned them from my mother, but my belief was vague 1 want to find out the truth of the matter for myself." This the dean felt was a hopeful sign. We want to be able to give a reasbn for our faith. With this end in view he had asked the Bishop of Montreal to con- duct a'teaching mission in the cathe. drdl, beginning next Sunday. The addresses will be in no sense contro- versial but "the essential truths of the Christian faith will be set forth. The dean urged the members of the parish to endeavor to make the mis- sion a success by their prayers, their influence and their regular attend- ance during the four days of the Bishop Farthing stay in Kingston. -- AT ST. Mr. Donaldson displayed great en- thusiasm, declaring the school was very much worth while. The week was filled full of well balanced work consisting of lectures by factory ex- perts and laboratory work under the direction of the best fleld service men from all parts of the country. Each student was required ¢ pull down a tractor engine completely, even to the pistol rings and magneto, as well as a complete transmission and In this process, not only was the manner of construction and the re- lation of the various parts thorough- ly learned but a &omplete working knowledge of timing the valves and magneto and other points were ex- plained as well, Laboratory work for each half day followed 'an hour's lecture. These lectures were an outstanding feature of the week. The evenings were given over to entertalnment. BOOK YOUR ORDERS NOW! April or May delivery. Don't wait.
