William White, Chicago, a former student of the Ontario School for the Deaf and a printer hy occupa- tion, is spending a vacation in Belle- ville. Mr. White, employed as a compositor at the Ontario for seven years, is now engaged at that work in Chicago, having been a printer for forty-one years. Was A Record Event. Madoc Agricultural fair was held on Tuesday and Wednesday. The attendance was large. It wag one of the best fairs ever held in the vil- lage. The grounds are well adapted for the holding of a fair and are he- ing improved every year. The exhi- bits were varied and of an extensive nature. In al! of the classes the entries were more numerous than in former years. and when placed in position presented an attractive ap- pearance. W. J. Hill, the energetic secretary was a busy man. A Drowning Accident. A sad accident occurred at Carle- ton Place when David George War- ren, second son of Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Warren, lost his life in the waters of the Mississippi at the Bat- es & Inmes bridge. The little fel- low, in his ninth year, was playing with Jack Parker, both boys being on the timbers above the stop-logs on the new Bates & Innes bridge, when the Warren boy lost his bal- ance and fell Int the deep water above the dam He was dead when rulled from the water. Following an illness of eleven nionths, death came suddenly to Sis- ter 8t. Alban on Wednesday in the Fembroke General Hospital. The late Sister St. Alban (nee Catherine McCarthy) was in her fifty-first year. She was born and educated in Pem- broke, later entering the Order of the Grey Nuns of the Cross. For many years she was attached to tha staff of the Convent of Mary Immac- ulate, Pembroke, as assistant mis- tress of boarders. She is survived Ly one sister, Sister Sylvester, of the Order of Loretto, Loretto Abbey, To- ronto. Died in Winnipeg. Miss' Agnes L. C. Peters, passad away at Winnipeg on Sept. 21:t. Deceased was a daughter of the lata | Solomon Peters, formerly of New- | burgh. In her early life she learned | the art of dressmaking from Miss | Tait, Napanee, after which she fol- | lowed her trade for a number of | yours. James Maxwell, 17 Victoria street, chairman of the Kingston association of Anneka Jans Bogardus heirs, is in receipt of an affidavit made by William Webber Easton, Toronto, in the matter of the estate of Wolfert Webber, which throws much light ou ) the intense interest of thousands of persons who trace their descent from Anneka Jans Bogardus. Mr. Egstern claims to be a direct descendant. He says that within the past six months an heir residing in Michigan bas heen approached by people "who of- fered him money for his influence in side<tracking the efforts of the heirs to \obtain that to which they are en- titled." Mr. Eastern says that he has interviewed nearly five hundred descendants and found that none had the mystifying case that has aroused | pursued their investigations to the same extent as he has done.
