The setting wasp 'realistic--and gorgeous; and the vivid interpretation of the actors and actresses captivated and thrilled the audience; for here was. depicted the great domestic tragedy that has stirred generations and left an eternal impress of the great moral and spiritual' lesson of thé Master. Here wag a faithful portrayal of the patriarchal life in Judea; the austere dignity of a Hebrew household, con- 'trasted with the Impetuosity ' ob youth; oriental sensuality, luxury and feminine beakty enhanced by every grace and charm, Fhe scenes were brilliant with color,. and the whole | effect was heightened by the danging scenes adapted by A. It-is in- deed a very worthy cause. There. is nothing mope essential to us-@8-a grow. nation than to -train the young to be of service to their coun- | try when they grow older, or at apy | critical moment. There should not be such a great ignorance of our ob- ligations to the state as there exists iwday. The great war showed this up in more ways than one. It should also be a great cure for the everlasting "'ego" prevailing almost everywhere. There are also maby other good points to this movement, almost too | numerous to mention. Those badges did 'work well on one occasion, but I mean a certificate of sérvice. Then again, is it not a bit thick, or better still, preposterous when a man who has no definite proof of service can wear a British naval uniform giving him seniority over men. who went to France in 1914, and from the ranks rose tothe rank of Battalion J Commander? I would like to see something which could 'be classed icker' but that surely remains to discovered. Mr. Editor, many of us doubt the sincerity of the worthy commandaat, surely there least, essential for one at the head of such a worthy cause. If a thing is not sincere, there is only one other thing it can be. I will explain my point by giving an example. The commandant on many occas ions gave some lofty spiels on unity among returned men. The pauses (for applause) were indeed so very neatly placed that each one got its. full quotd) of applause. Sure enough eve erybody wants unity, and even with- ses a good line would have gained 'applayes. Please keep the above'in mind. Last spring we were asked to go | fifty-fifty with them on one of the carnivals they were proposing to bring to the city. It was indeed a very kind offer, considering the financial position we 'were in, But no date was given nor | was -it stated at the time which show we were 10 be allowed in on, Time went on, and 'we kept press- ing fer the name and dates of the! carnivals to be brough*. but notaing doing, so naturally .anen we were approached by the World at Home hows we acedpted their tract. | Can anyone blame us for taking {hia t for- got his unity spiels, and decreed that the joint Advisory Committee then in existence would have no more A. & N. representatives on it. . Oh, what a steadfast stand for unity! No doubt he has since harangued "Lis audiences on unity, and sure en- ough the applause pauses must have worked magnificently. How does he pull this stuff with- out blushing? Lest I forget, Mr. Commandant, I know several who would be pleased to know something about the several 'cases -of socks, balaclavas. and oth- er soldiers comforts which were to have been sent to "A" and '"B" bat- terfes, 'R.C.H.A. ahd for which each officer, N.C.0. and man in '"'C" Bat- tery gave a halt day's pay in the | early spring of 1915.
