Harold Mathison, Toronto, born in Havelock, and the son of Reeve Mathison, has received the ap- pointment, of postmaster at Have- lock, succeeding the late Charles Fanning. The new postmaster's ap- pointment is popular one, especially from the fact that he is badly crip- pled as thé result of his defence of |age from thé marriage certificate, the Portsmouth philosopher tells the Lampman. You must look up the official birth record, he says, If the clergy who ne divorce were more careful about uniting cou- ples in wedlock, there would possibly be leas scandal for the old senators to hear. Coa] is still much cheaper than potatoes, The black heat diamonds sell at $15.50 a ton, while "spuds" even now command the fancy price of $65 for the same quantity, The old Portsmouth brewery site would be a grand one for Kingston's waterworks. The pliers will be massive structures as each pier will weigh over fifteen tons from the ground up and the immense weight is easily taken into considera- tion that each one is one solid mass of brick, stone and concrete, needless to say the piers rest on solid rock and their foundation is built-of stone and concrete, The bricks are laid in black mortar which gives them a much richer appearance than though laid in common white mortar, and while the additional cost for the stain will be over one hundred dol- lors, yet it will be money well spent.
