Sir Thomas Lipton's Shamrock IV, the challénger, which 'will represent the Royal Ulster Yacht Club, was successfully launched at City Island last Wednesday evening. At once work was started. to step the mast of the craft, rig and bend on her sails, and do the many things necessary to place the green racer in commission. Work has progressed so rapidly that the yacht should be ready for her preliminary trials within a week. » As the 23-metre' Shamrock has not yet arrived, the yachtsmen in charge of the challenger have been some- what worried regarding a trial here. The smaller Lipton yacht is now on her way here, but is not expected to arrive for another week. : --g-- ADIRONDACK STARS MAKE A COMPLAINT The Watertown, N.Y., Standarfl says: The Adirondack Stars, 'con- sidered one of the leading ball teams of Northern New York, last three straight games in as many days. While it was expected that there would be a limitation in the mutuel collections for the protection of both the public and the legitimate sporting associations, #t was not thought that such a low-graded scale would be adopted. In Ontario the provincial government taxes the mile tracks $7,600 per day, but with the new: scale of mutuel takings in vogue the clubs will be unable to pay this 'sum. as operating expemses are very heavy. Taking the present O. J. C. meeting at Woodbine as a guide. The attendance has been exception- ally large, much greater than in nor- mal times, and the average betting has been $200,000 for ordinary days and $350,000 for the "big" days.
