Baseball To-Night 6.30 P. M. Every afternoon and evening the boys are out at the old ball game. In the Fiel IT SEEMS THAT Jinx says, "Thuh guy what named it near beer was a bum judge of dis- tance, In a 100 yards dash he'd sprint about half a mile." Times have switched a bit. Now Johnson and Alexander are having a rough time of it winning one game out «of four. Remember the old days? The fishing is good and the fol- lowers of Izaak Walton are enthus- lastic but where are the fish? Has the art of fabrication been smashed along with many other traditions that passed out with the war? We would like to know who has caught the largest fish to date? Replies will be accepted from "Billy" Paul, "Dinny" Branigan, and other 'eén- snarers of the finny tribe. It's funny the queer turns that baseball sometimes takes. The oth- er day the Yanks made thirteen hits for sixteen bases and collected there- by one lonely tally. Some years ago King Bailey pitched a mo-hit game and yet was beaten 5 to 0, Later a pitcher named Adams yielded four- teen hits and yet secured a shutout. Then there was the old Cleveland club in a double header against Chi- cago's hitless wonders got thirty-five hits for fifty-two bases--and yet lost both games. Yep, my boy, it sure is queer. The sooner work is done towards repairing the Cricket Field the bet- ter. It seems altogether likely that the councilmen will give their sup- port to the City League's request for $100 for repairing the grounds. Some of the members have been can- vassed and the civic finance commit- tee 'was favorable on Thursday night. Merdhants apparently are not keen to give prizes for the encouragement of swimming in Kingston. Some- time ago we suggested that inexpen- Eive medals might pe donated for the purposé but there' has been no res- ponse. The 'local lawn bowling club may be like the Anglican ~synod. Per haps they don't want ladies around --and maybe they have more reas- on than the synou. Nevertheless, it the grounds could be enlarged the feming bowlers might draw the males into battle. Rhe Amazon bowlers are amongst the best in western On tario tities. The horses at the Fair Grounds on Tuesday showed very good condition considering that the season is only beginning. Faust Patchen was out Ql the game last year but should pick up considerably during the sum- mes, The law distinguishes between horse races and trials of speed. The driving club has to secure a license to hold horse races but "Bob" Bush- ell 18 unrestricted when he terms the events as trials of speed at the one and only fair. Three tennis courts have been completed at Queen's University and are being used by the students, Sév- eral clay counts have yet to be con- structed. The Ponies have some litle aggre: gation. Someone once said that base. ball was synonymous with 'American Jhut the Canucks sure can play the national game. A shut-out on top of Gouveneur, N.Y., is not to be sneer- ed at. . Brockville may be kidding us, The question is, "Has Brockville!) K.C.I. may Kebp its aggregation in the jumior city league but it i8 quite prolable that the organization will appear under a different name. There has been some objection fo entering a team representing théin- stitution' and the boys will probably} choose some new name by which they will be known. So far there has beep no cdncelldtion of Saturday's game between the Y.I.C.B/A. bunch and KC.I add there is no reason tof] believe that the season's opener willl] not take place. The boys are dis} afternoon, n Thursday evening Pd a of the City a sue, Tad no notification that per' a I I .,s | | motive works. = Nevgrtheless, it seems likely that a corps will be lin- ed up for thé season, There are rosy hopes for the or- ganization of the senior city league. Already Althletics and Red Sox are waiting for a third team to make the league complete and oh Thursday evening P. J.'Moran and Hugh Shan- ahan of the City League Board of Management 'Waited on "Bert" Daley to ascertain whether Ponies would enter the / league. "Bert" , did not give any definite answer as he had to see the rest of the team but he seemed favorable to the idea and a senior organization looms up' inte view, 4 i, cet Two More Appointments * to the City League. The board of management of the City Baseball League has added two more members to its executive. Dr. Leonard J. Walsh, who starred as first baseman on the Victorias before the war, has accepted a position 'as well as' Dr. C. E. O'Connor who has always taken a keen interest in sport. An effort is being made to make the board of management as influential as possible so that the City League may recover some of its' pre-war prosper- ity. . A meeting is to be held to-night to. discuss the standing of the lea- gue. TWILIGHT EXHIBITION GAME GW.V.A: and Y.LC.BA. Practiced At the Cricket: Field on 'Thufsday At the Cricket Field on Thursday evening G.W.V.A. and Y.I.C.B.A. clashed in an exhibition game, the latter winning out by a score of 17 to 7. Some of the plays 'were quite snappy and the evening's sport previded a good workout for both teams.
