He figured there were about '1,200 autos in the city, and this would bring in au annual re- venue of $12,000 or mere. .He said the automobiles were to blame for the cutting up of the roads; and he considered that his scheme would be & good one. The Board was anxious lo give the city the very best roads possible, but the great drawback was in finances, After some discussion, all the members voted 'in favor of putting the regommendation before the Council. Chairman Graham presided at the meeting, and the other mem- bers present were Alds. Patterson, Cooper, Litton: and Nortis. AM. Graham also has 4 proposal to tax all the owners of horses $1 a year for good roads. ; The question of having the King- ston harbor dredged by the Govern ment, to get prepared for the receiv- ing of the big lake vessels after work on the Welland Canal has been fin- Jdshed, was brought up by the chalr- man, and it was decided to ask the Aty Council to Appoint a committee to walt on the Minister of Public Works, at Ottawa, in regard to the matter. The Board of Trade will be asked to have a representative onthe = deputation, : The Board intends to get busy on road paving as soon as possible, A large amount of work has been planned. The City Engineer mitted a report on 'the streets to be Paved, 8 cadam rdadway on Montreal street, from James street to the city limits, but from the feeling of the meeting, it is likely that this will be extended all the way from Princess street to the city limits, as. it felt that this entire stretch should be attended to.
