James Russell, Whom She Befriend- ed, Is a Deserter from Ranks, and Was Remanded for a Week. Maud Offord, the twenty-two-year- old girl who secured a horse and rig from C, Be: Finkle: and then drove off to Na ih her friend, James Russell, an ivy discarded the out- fit, drew a sence of three months in jail when she came before Magis- trate Farrell on Tuesday morning, after a remand of several days in jail. The charge was vagrancy. It has been found that Russell is a deserter from His Majesty's army, and was remanded for another week. Russell made his escape on October 20th, but his liberty was of very short duration, as the local police nabbed him a few days later. It appears that he was a patient in one of the local military hospitals, and while being removed from the hospital to Fort Henry he made a break for free- dom by jumping out of the ambu- lance. The Offord girl admitted i clothes for Russell to 'change from getting the horse ahd rig from Fin- klv's divery, and taking a suit of his military uniform. - Russell hails from around ST -- Perdue, ou 3 a former well resident of Stoco, and brother townsman, M.
