The Provincial Fuel Controller Ad- vises That Kingston No Lon lay in Appointing a Local ler. Mayor Hughes on Wednesday morning received notice irom RC Harris, fuel controller for Untario,] that the allotment of anthracite coal for Kingston for the season of 1918- 1919 would be 46,100 tons, Kings- ton's requirements in this line are un- derstood to be about 65,000, so the difference will have to be made up in other ways. The province of Onta- rio is to receive 375000 tons less of anthracite coal than it did during the season of 1916-1917. The 46.100 tons has reference to the smaller grades of coal, as ¢gg: stove, nut and pea. Municipalities may get more hard coal of steam size, A coal «commission has been insti- tuted in the United States, and the al- lotment is bedng made at Philadelphia, Pa. The commission will endeavor to have seventy-five per cent. of On- tario's coal delivered by the 30th of November. The balance will come during the winter, { It is not yet known how much coal has arrived at Kingston since naviga- tion opened, but possibly sixty per cent. of the city's allotment has come. The coal is being delivered into houses, stores, hospitals, manufactur- ing places, etc., as fast as it arrives. Fuel. Commissioner Harris tells the Mayor that no municipality should any longer delay in appointing a fuel controller or board of commis- sioners to take the fuel situation in hand, and see that the best distribu- tion possible is made of available coal Mayor Hughes will reply to Mr. Harris and state that Kingston has no fuel controller, as the City Council decided after full discussion last spring to let things go until it thought a controller was actually necessary. It is not likely that the Council will ap- point, one until it convenes after va- | cation next October, as the aldermen soldiers for the Siberian expedition. Capt. At the Theatres At the Grand. 1 Last evening's programme at the Grand was one that delighted the ca- pacity house, and all were of the same ehthusiastic mind concerning the feature pitture, which was "A Bachelor's Children," and had Harry Morey in the stellar role. There was also the Pathe News, a good comedy, and an O. Henry story, besides Moss and Moss in a dancing, talking and juggling act that was exceptionally good. This bill will be repeated to- night for the last time. For Thurs- day and Friday of this week Sir John- ston Forbes-Robertson, the famous actor of the legitimate stage, will be seen in a five-part Brady made photo- play entitled "Masks and Faces." In this picture Mr. Robertson is sup. portéd by the most remarkable cast | ever assembled for stage or screen. "Masks and Faces" was made for the benefit of a war charity, and it was chosen because it was the only uni. versally known piece of English lit- erature that could afford the proper vehicle for the great array of talent that volunteered. Other films will be a Lonesome Luke comedy, the Pathe News, and two other fine reels. An act of first class vaudeville will hold the boards for these two days only, as "My Irish Cinderella" will open the Kingston theatrical season on An Attractive List of Dollar Specials for Thursday $1.00 SOME OF THE THINGS ONE DOLLAR WILL BUY TO-MORROW 50 DRESS LENGTHS OF PRETTY VOILES All new designs this summer.
