On Tuesday, March 21st, Mrs. Thom-~ as Gillespie, jr., passed away after a lingering illness, ie maiden name of the deceased was Margaret Scott, She was born in Pittsburg. She is survived also by her mother, three brothers and five sisters, SOLDIERS WERE ENTERTAINED At a Most Pleasing Function at One GQ Nada Hospital. The members of the Fellowship Chub of the Y.W.C.A. entertained the soldiers at the On-gwa-nada Hospital on Tuesday night, and the event was a fine treat for the boys. The mem- bers of the club ably demonstrated some real service in the line of en- tertaining, and the returned men warmly appreciate the efforts = put forth for their pleasure. There was a varied programme, and those tak- ing part included Master Andrews, Routley Bros., Miss Myrtle King, Miss Minnie Parks, and Miss Foster. There was also a very interesting ex- hibition of club swinging and other attractions, including a contest which created much interest. RETIRING FROM SERVICE. John Morrissey Has Deen Post Office Messenger for Thirty-four Years. After thirty-four years' faithful service as megsenger at the Kingston 'Post Office, John Morrissey will re- tire from the service on March 30th. Mr. Morrissey is one of the best known men in the city. A familiar figure on the street, he made many friends, all of whom join in wishing him' continued good health and happiness now that he will receive a pension. Robinson Fell or Threw Himself From Cliff, A despatch from Brockville, re- garding the finding of the dead body of Lieut. G. E. Robinson, on the ice, reference to which was made in the Whig on Wednesday, says he is be- lieved to have fallen or thrown him- sell from a cliff seventy-five feet high. The body was quite warm when found. Just at the time the body was found the draft was at the station saying farewell to Brockville: Robinson was manager of the Bank street branch of the Union Bank at Ottawa, and went to Brockville last October;-and it is said he became disappointed through seeing younger officers being sent out while he re- mained behind. His home was in Orangeville. He was thirty years of age and unmarried, Knowledge Going to Waste, A man who was travelling in the mountains stopped at a cabin aad asked for a drink of water. An old woman brought it out te him, and after 'drinking he had quite a talk with her, telling her great stories about some of the wonders he had seen in the outside world.
