Prof. Iva Martin, the president, occupied the chair, and the chairmen of the differ- ent committees were also present. | The chief topic of discussion centred upon the marking out of good roads by placing signs with arrows printed on them, pointing in the proper direc tion. The first thing to be done as regards this matter is Ly the varion members of the good roads committee taking a trip over these roads and | making a chart to the several different places within their district. * After this chart has been prepared, the plan & up by the head office of the Ontario ' 1 ELECTRIC DOMES On Sale For One Week COMMENCING MONDAY, 18TH, 100 ; BEAUTIFUL DINING ROOM DOMES $5.00 = tH I Your Choice W. Dr. D. A. Black was strongly in favor of getting to work at this as soon as possible, and received heartv support from George Robertson. H. The clean- ing up campaign was certainly good fur the city, « . "I have been out carting as early as 4.30 in the morning," one carter told 'the Whig, on Wednesday night, "and I know others who have been doing the same." Ashes to be carted out of yards and cellars provide a great deal of work and then there is a great deal of other refyyge which has to be cart od away. A citizen stated that he knew of a party who had ashes piled in his cellar for five years. They ware re- moved just a few days ago as are sult of the cleaning up campaign. The citizen has an extra large cellar, so he was not put to any inconven- ience to leave the ashes in his cel lar. The city «dumps have been added to + materially' during the past two weeks. As a result some of the latter were laid off on "Thursday morning and their places filled by foreigners. The cause of 'this seemed to bé that the men were working a little too ~lose to a barroom on Wednesday after- noon and they 'took it into their heads to quench their thirst. As a consequence, they became unfitted for their work, the foreman said. The latter decided to lay the guilty parties off for a while. Each day more foreigners are being placed on the construction work. APPOINTED PROFESSOR Physiological Chemistry | Queen's Medical College. Dr. A. P. Olivet, since after the ascension the disciples are described as return- ing to Jerusalem from the mount that is called Mt. Olivet, whjch 4s near Jerusalem, within a Sabbath day's journey. Tradition has con- Psecrated this site as the Mount of the Ascension and christian piety has memorialized the event by erecting 'over the site a basilica. St. Helena built the first memorial which was destroyed by the Persians in 614, rebuilt in the eighth century, to be destroyed again, but rebuilt for a third time by the Crusaders.
