Watertown, N. Y., June 16.--Five or six prisoners who pleaded guilty, in supreme court to indictments handed up against them, replied that they were. addicted to the excessive use of intoxicants when questioned by the District-Attorney. All six were young men, Leslie Tooley of this city, charg- ed with the theft of 1,100 worth of diamonds, being the only one who an- dwered that he whs not a drinking man. Tooley was sentenced to the Elmira Reformatory. He is but twenty-one years of age. The sentence is a in- Retarnnate one and probably Tooley will be out within two or threo years. The young man was dressed in sailor costume when arraigned. Attor- ney Smith asked the court to exercise leniency. While Tooley stole diamonds, Jos #ph Foley of Saratoga, aged thirty five, stole we pounds of junk and cop- per castings from the St. Regis Pa- per company and got not less than two and a half and not move than five years wh bard labor in Auburn, Foley took his medicine with a gri- .
