Awarded Heavy Against Saloonkeeper. 1 Detroit, Mich., July 9.--A decision far-reaching in its importance, and one which will be of interest to the cause of temperance everywhere, was handed down hy the Michigan supreme court. Mrs, Nettie Marriman, Grass Lake, brought suit against Frederick, a saloonk in the same town, claiming $10,000 damages from him for having sold ligyor to her husband, thereby rendering him a drunkard, as well as causing the p'nirtifi to lose her home, her money, anil the companionship of her hus band. It was shown to the satisfaction of the court that until Marriman took to drink he was a prosperous tailroad telegrapher, and stood high with his employees. The drink habit caused him to lose everything, and finally his wife was obliged to leave him. The case first went before a jury, which gave Mrs, Marriman a small verdict, but she appealed to the supreme court and the decision re- sulted in a verdict against the val o beeper for $5,225.
