Present: Dr. Duff, chair man, B. W. Robertson, R. J. Carson, W. B. Skinner, Lieut. -Col. Massie, Rev. D. Laing, F. Welch, Rev. Dr. Mackie, Rev. Dr. Macgillivray, H. A. Calvin, James A. Minnes. The committee of management are considering the question of proper fire protection, sn:l will report fully at a later date, but in the meantime re- commend that the chief of the fire de- partment be askéd to examine and thoroughly test the fire apparatus, and submit a report, that a number of fire extinguishers be purchased at once, The receipts for the month gmount- od to $1,376.04. Hugh Robinson, of Hamilton, gene- ral organizer for the Journeymen Tailors' Union, has arrived in the city, and will again put forth his efforts to bring about a setlement in the tailors' strike. Mr. Robinson has i MARINE NEWS. A GREAT CAR FERRY. Ontario No. 1 Running ' Between Cobourg and Charlotte. The new car ferry, Ontario No. 1 running between Cobourg and Char- lotte, is attracting a at deal of attention A number of Kingstonians have had the pleasure of inspecting the ferry, and they have beep much impressed with all that they saw. The ferry also carried passengers. Ar- rangemenis now under foot for the building of another for the same purpose. The ferry carries twenty-eight load- ed cars. Carmichael, M.A., associate professor of physics, who will leave this week for Bermuda for the' benefit of his health. His many friends hope to see him fully restored by the spring.
