HEARD IN BELLEVILLE. Action Against George McGowan Dismissed. Belleville Outario. Forward vs. MeBowan--The plaintiff in this action is a cigar manufacturer in Belleville, and the defendant a cigar manufacturer in Kingston. In 1900 the plaintiff purchased the cigar-mak- ing plant one Johuson, and began the business of cigar manufacturing at Belleville, which was carried on un- [til 1903, when the defendant formed his business into a joint stock com- pany, the plaintiff contending that the stock in trade and plant used by him in Belleville was his property and had been put into the defendant's com- pany upon the agreement that he was to have stock in the defendant's com- pany for the value thereof; that after the formation of the defendant com- pany he was to have an increase of salary from $16 a week to $20 or $25 a week as well as a share in the pro- fits. The defendant contended that the business and plant as bought out and run by plaintiff in Belleville was al ways the defendant's own business and that plaintifi was merely a man- ager here and paid by the defendant {for his services. There is nothing more strange and incongruous on the part of a vas: number of religious believers than the fear of facts. There is a yery evidem desire to guard religion from the m trusion of the new, There is apparent the wish to let religion alone, ana not to disturb its cherished radi tions. Yet is this tendency contrary to the spirit of truth and progress There should be the wish gud willing- ness to receive whatever of good the present can give. If it is better than the old, we should be willing to have the old displaced. To do this needs courage, and confidence in the living God of the present. Address, Mr. Casson for free litera ture.
