London, Ont., Jury 17.--The bodies of Messrs, Hamilton and Long have been removed from the wreckage of Reid & Co's, mew store, after ome of the most memorable struggles ever fought by human hands. The remains Mr. Long were extricated with dif- few ty shortly after 3.30 o'clock this morning. It was stated, this morning, that it had been discovered hat the bodies of young women still remained in the wreckage but this re vort could not be confirmed. Government Takes Steps to Pre- vent Importation. Calcutta, July 17.--It is believed here that the Indian government has been corresponding with the govern- ment of French India regarding the fa- cilitics afforded for the smuggling of arms through Chandernagar and Por- dicherry. The French colonial government heartily assented to the British repre- sentations, and a new arms act has been prepared, containing stringent regulations with regard to the pur- chase and possession of arms by French native subjects. In laying the act before his council, the French gov- arnor referred to the "'anti-European movement which is going on around us in British territory," amd he also made a pointed reference to the ten- dencies to some extent revealed at Chandernagar. The allusion lends color to the rumor which has been current for a long time in Caleutta to the eficet that arms are heing purchased at Chandernngar for use in eastern Bengal. The Peterboro Review, the turning back of Mrs. Free man. at Rochester, N. Y., says: "How long is the sort of nonsense of placing a head tax upon all foreigners who enter Uncle Sam's domains to continue ? The great republic to the south often boasts that it is 'the land of the free and the home of the brave," whereas it mighg more aptly be called 'the land of the rich and the | home of the slave."
