The June session of the county council opened this afternoon. It is expected that the question of purch- asing the Perth Road by accepting the award of the arbitrators will again be discussed. At the January session the council decided to take no action upon the award. Since then, it is said that the feeling in favor of purchas- ing the road and thus getting spe- cial government grants has increased. Of Principal Gordon in the Toron- to Globe. In a short sketch of Rev. Principal Gordon, of Queen's University, =a writer in the Toronto Globe says, Dr. 'Gordon has proved himself an able administrator at Queen's. "He does not make mistakes," a universi- ty professor told the writer. He looks carefully and impartially at all. sides of a question before forming an op- inion or contlusion. In the pulpit he is clear, forceful and eloquent, and in the the- ology classroom his lectures delight the student. Dr. Gordon js a capital after-dinner speaker, and delights in hearing and telling a good story. He is genial and sociable at all times. "A likable man," he has been termed. Under him there are nearly 1,200 students, He wants to know them all, and takes pains to become acquaint- ed personally with them. He is truly the students' friend. The last time the writer met him was when he was com- ing from the General Hospital, where he had dropped in to see two students who were ill. Moore was well-known and highly re- spected and her presence will be sadly missed. The funeral will take place from her late residence, Wednesday morning, to Milton cemetery. The Recent Celebration. The executive of the Vietoria Day celebration committee, met at the City Hall last night, and passed a large number of accounts, but there are still a number to be dealt with. After all the accounts have been dealt with by the committee, and passed by the auditors, a statement of the fin- ances will be given to the press for publication. The executive passed a hearty vote of thanks to all who had assisted in making the celebration such a successful affair. Col.
