Cobalt, OUnt., Feb, 25.--A diamand drill working on north half of the north-west quarter of the north half of lot 3, concession 6, ( lamin, abut ting the Silver Bird mine, has struck two veins four and five inches wide, showing high value in silver and co- balt. These veins were cut at a depth of one hundred feet. The veins 'are ten feet apart and run north-west and south-oast, directly into the silver Rird property. The strike was made near the east end of the property and within sikty feet of the west line of Silver Bird. A shaft is now being sunk "to catch these veins. This striké dem. onstrates positively that the silver veins are extending north-east of the town of Cobalt. Ottawa, ch 2.-The Commons spent yesterday in further discussion of the Lemieux labour bill, the mat ter of chief intérest being the ques tion whether men should be entitled to 'strike before the decision of a board of arbitration had been arhived at, and received, 'the tofusal of the Doukhobors of Western Unnada to perform home: stead duties required by law, in re gard to cultivating their lands lying} some distance outside communial vil- lages, has resulted in a somewhat complicated and difficult situation. A number of squatters, knowing that within the last four years thé entries filed by Doukhobors have been legally forfeited by the failure above noted. have prompted | some seventy eight homesteads, Doukhobors have now petitioned to the government to revise the terms so av to legalize their hold- ings without fulliling homestead dit: "We. The only concession he will grant is giving to Doukhobors an uncondition- al grant of land equal to three times amount cultivated around communial villages.
