After a year with an interim coach, Kostecki took over the reins. "We're not experienced; the only experience I have is with my own daughter. It's really learning and un- derstanding what works for them. Parents have assisted with coaching and we have been blessed to find young gymnasts or dancers who have joined our club from local schools (as volunteer assistants)," said Kostecki. Athletes of all levels are welcome to join the Butter- flies with the expectation offlies with the expectation off attending competitions, where participants are rat- ed and scored with the high- est scoring ones moving up to the next level, if they're interested, said Kostecki. Medals are special, but it's an individual's personal best that coaches strive to obtain. All athletes in Lev- els 1-3 perform the same routine worldwide; Level 4 athletes are given their choice of music, special skills to master and a chore- ographer for competitions. "It's so rewarding. I en- joy working with the ath- letes, I just find it's a place I look forward to coming each week as do the ath- letes. As a coach I see the confidence it's given them; it keeps them positive, helps them stay focused and active. It's just terrific to see that they're really en- joying what they're doing. It's not just a sport, it's memorization, it's a routine (and) that takes a lot for some athletes, it really does. They amaze me. I en- courage them to do their very best and never to give up and when they surpass their own expectations you just see the satisfaction. It's phenomenal." Kostecki said the credit for any success lies with thefor any success lies with thef parents who commit to weekly sessions and en- courage their kids outside of her Monday night ses- sions. "It's a great opportunity to see what the outcome may be if that's what they'd like." There are endless smiles, endless high fives and endless hugs, she said. "They're just so sweet and innocent."
