Loren Cassina and his orches-- tra, which made such a hit at our New Year's Eve ball, has again been engaged to dispense the music for our seventeenth Annual Easter ball which is be-- ing held in the Crystal ball-- room of the King Edward Ho-- tel. The commititee, composed of the Club's executive, have made final arrangements with the orchestra and we sincerely believe that their selection has been a popular one. Cassina and his ten--piece band have be-- come very popular with Toron-- to dance--goers. They may be heard regularly broadcasting from Sunnyside Pavilion where they Are at present located, en-- joying an excellent patronage. Now that the orchestra has been engaged, and we certainly hope that our selection will me-- et with your enthusiastic ap-- proval, the attention of the com-- mittee is being directed. into other channels in order to make our annual ball the premiere of the year. This week a huge ad-- vertising campaign will be laun-- ched with every member of our Club taking an active part to inform you about ithe particu-- lars. No stone is being left un-- turned in order to make our Easter Ball on Monday, April 2nd, the most enjoyable evening of the year. Tickets will be re-- ady for distribution in the co-- urse of the next few days and same may be obtained from members of the Club's executi-- ve and their agents. Now is the opportune time to arrange your parties for our monster social at the King Edward Hotel. Ma-- ke your reservations early. Re-- member, all are invited to at-- tend. Past Pres. In view of the fact that we are ce-- lebrating the hundredth birth-- day of our fair city, the com-- mittee is making special arran-- gements appropriate with our city's centennial celebrations. The party threatened to break up because that harmony team, Frank and Henry, began pulling song she-- ets out from all angles and re-- fused to keep quiet. But what's a mere two aga-- inst nine? 'Nine can outguess two so the harmony boys were forced to capitulate. Topics of the revel were vari-- ed and amusing: double wed-- dings, funerals (Old Man Sor-- row and Vincent), fashion shows, trips fto New York, "Whisper in my ear", "Shimmy on your own side". Nicky was fortunate enough the other evening to win an expensive lighter. How -- long is the gas going to last! Several members of our bow-- ling teams are contemplating entering a team in the city bowling tournament. There is no reason why 'they shouldn't for there are many prominent bowlers in our league with not a few high average scores for the season. e ® 8 Past President Gid De Spirt had his car stolen a few days ago but not for long as the po-- lice recovered it on the follow-- ing day. Frank Garbarino and Till De-- Spirt have gone on an extended vacation to the sunny climes of Florida and Havana. We hope that they will return in time to attend our Easter Ball. The Circolo Colombo hockey club _ banquet was held last Thursday evening and the play-- ers were treated to a real Ita-- top. I don't know the ingredi-- ents used to make the pie, but that isn't important anyhow. It will prove inexpensive and a quick method of ridding your-- selves of the guests. This is called "cream pie & la lily". "Good night, knights !" Just in case you might be in-- terested, the five dollar prize for the best essay on "My Ex-- periences in Italy" _ «was awar' ded to the president of the Van-- guard Club, Frank Scandiffio. It is the intention of the Vanguard Club to hold a ban-- quet and dance in the near fu-- ture-- 'toward the end of April. We hope to have as our guests of honour many distinguished personages. The second ~and concluding installment of "Is America He-- aded Toward ~Fascism?", ~by Piero Sacerdoti, is featured in the March "Atlantica", the American--Italian _ Monthly Di-- gest, of New York. In a tho-- ughtful consideration of the matter, the author, who is a contributor to "Gerarchia", the Magazine of Mussolini, discus-- ses the various factors tending to bring about such a develop-- ment in this country. What the new American--Ita-- lian student of the second and third generation is, what he thinks, how he acts, and what his feelings are, are revealed in an interesting article by Ange-- lo J. Tomasulo in the same is-- sue of "Atlantica", which is the only Italian magazine published in English in the world, edited especially for the second--gener-- ation, English--speaking -- Italian-- American. Another article is "Depression: Causes and Reme-- dies'" by Jerome J. Licari, for-- mer Assistant District Attor-- ney and noted lawyer. Will America Have Fascism? Asks "Atlan-- tica" Monthly The article -- "Rome and the East Will Meet", by Subhas Chandra Bose, ex--mayor of Cal-- cutta, India, deals with the re:-- cent Eastern Congress held in Rome, while Mary Iacovella, in the «same issue, answers the claim for -- Nordic -- superiority that is being made in her ar-- ticle, "Again, the Nordic Myth". In addition to the above and other features, there are many other attractive departments in this month's "Atlantica", in-- cluding "Nardo", a short story by Gerlando Mangione; "Pro-- gress in Politics'"' dealing with the first Italian State Senator in Rhode Island, John Di Libe-- ro; a section in Italian: "Atlan-- tica in Italiano" ; and "The Ita-- lians in North America", which records the many. worth--while activities of the Italians in America and Canada. This is in --addition to the o th er regular departments, such as "The Educational Ho-- rizon" by Peter and Sylvia Sammartino, covering the acti-- vities of the --Italian element in the schools and colleges; "Books and Authors" by Camil-- le De Borsello; 'The Art World' by Ione Della: Sala; "The The-- atre". by..John.A. Dominick Lamonica is Managing Editor . BOLLET TINO George F. Sansone, R.O., Editor DEL Since turning -- professional after returning from the last Olympic games, Frankie Geno-- vese has fought fifteen fights. He has been victorious in all but that in which he participat-- ed last Monday night in Ro-- chester. In this bout, which he accepted on a three day notice, he was held to a draw. For the first rounds, Fran-- kie had a decided edge, then he began to weaken owing to lack of condition and his opponent, one of the leading fighters in New York State, began to gain the upper hand. At . that the majority of the experts thought that Genovese had gained eno-- ugh margin in the first three rounds to win the bout, but the judges and referee decided that a draw was justifiable. The local boy would be well advised not to accept bouts on such short notice as it takes weeks to train properly . Fran-- kie has become a popular favo-- rite in Rochester and the pro-- moters in that city have invited him back «again to fight in a main bout in the very near fu-- ture. '251, HMESFaAtLOTL 2.2..¢. .ls s The -- Columbus Coal cinched the top position in the bowling league, when they took four points from the Five Pellettiers. In justice to the latter team, we must mention-- the fact there were bad break more than poor bowling that shook them off the top limb of the tree. They lost the first game by 29 pins and the second by 16. In the third game it started out well for the Five Pellettiers, but continued bad breaks under-- mined their morale. It is hoped that these two teams will meet again in the finals for the club leadership, and if they do it promises to be an excitable evening's performance. Eatons took eight points and the Spow team took six during the week, ~which makes -- the o th er three positions closer than ever, and it is anticipated that the final standing will not be known until the schedule is c o m pleted. The Spows team created somewhat of a record when they rolled 3709 for the team . Pio knocked off high sin-- gle with 385 and had a nice high three of 892.
