The collection was compiled and promoted by the HAT team, Derek Hawley (conception, middle), Josie DiSciascio-Andrews (public relations, on left) and Sheila Tucker (editor-in-chief, on right). The cover features an image of a lakeside landscape in shades of sky and earth tones created by Oakville native Christine Juric. The book will be available in local libraries in the new year. It will also be available for purchase online. HAT/photos THINGS THAT MATTER Metroland Media Group West, which includes the Oakville Beaver, Burlington Post and Milton Canadian Champion newspapers, is asking residents to donate to a gift card drive in support of Halton Women's Place.Women's Place.W The local newspapers are once again collecting gift cards for grocery stores, clothing stores, shopping malls, restau- rants, etc., which will be distributed to women currently making use of the shel- ter's services and those who have used the shelter's services within the last year. "Women who have left the shelter and are struggling through that first year on their own and trying to make ends meet, sometimes that's harder than we imag- ine," said Carm Bozzo, Halton Women's Place development manager. "These gift cards let us help them throughout the year with grocery gift cards or a gift card that will cover school supplies for their kids if that's what they need. These gift cards let us provide that sup- port as they transition to a life free of vio- lence." At Christmas, Bozzo said the gift cards also let mothers shop for their children and get exactly what their kids want. The Halton Women's Place provides shelter and crisis services for physically, emotionally, financially and sexually abused women and their dependent chil- dren. Anyone wishing to donate to the gift card campaign, can drop the cards off at the Metroland Media Group West office at 901 Guelph Line in Burlington during reg- ular business hours, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Donations will be accepted until after business hours on Friday, Dec. 14.
