The National Hockey League and the players' association Hockey Fights Cancer campaign is getting a big assist from the Oak- ville Rangers tyke 2 team. The November fundraiser had the Oakville team sporting li-fundraiser had the Oakville team sporting li-f lac hockey tape on their sticks and Hockey Fights Cancer decals on their helmets. The tyke 2 team partnered with the Hock- ey Fights Cancer Assist program in support of the Canadian Cancer Society. During November, players sported lilac hockey tape on their sticks as well as Hockey Fights Cancer decals on their helmets. The coaching staff also showed its support by wearing lilac shirts and ties. Coach Vince Farano issued a fundraising challenge to each of the 18 players on the team to raise $100 for Hockey Fights Cancer, which will support the Canadian Cancer So-which will support the Canadian Cancer So-w ciety's lodges, support services, and trans- portation programs so no one has to face can- cer alone. Hockey Fights Cancer was found- ed by the NHL and the players' association in 1998 to unite the hockey community in sup- port of cancer patients and their families. The initiative has resulted in donations of more than $20 million to support national and local cancer research institutions, chil- dren's hospitals, player charities and local charities. COMMUNITY RANGERS TYKE TEAM HELPS IN HOCKEY FIGHTS CANCER CAMPAIGN The Oakville tyke 2 Rangers hockey team spent November supporting the Hockey Fights Cancer partnership between the Canadian Cancer Society, the NHL and the NHL Players Association.
