The concert features selections from the French and Québécois traditions with works from Gagnon, Fauré and Gounod, featuring soloists Allison Walmsley, sopra-featuring soloists Allison Walmsley, sopra-f no; River Guard, tenor; and Maciej Bujnow- icz, baritone. "Chantez Noel! is a festive program com- bining historical French Canadian carols arranged by 19th-century Canadian com- poser Ernest Gagnon with great choral works by Gounod and Fauré," says David Bowser, music director of Oakville Choral. "The Mass for St. Cecilia by Gounod cele- brates the patron saint of music and has a joyous character. Our wonderful choir sounds superb in this repertoire and we are thrilled to welcome our remarkable solo- ists." Walmsley is an acclaimed Toronto-basedWalmsley is an acclaimed Toronto-basedW soprano originally from Saskatoon. She holds a bachelor's degree in voice perfor- mance from the University of Saskatche- wan and a master's degree from Western University. Allison has participated in the Gordon Wallis Opera competition (first place), the CFMTA Young Artist competi- tion (first place), the Toronto Mozart Com- petition (finalist), MYOpera intensive/con- cert and the Ukrainian Art Song Summer Institute. Recent performances have includ- ed roles with Opera Kelowna and Saska- toon Opera. Bujnowicz is a recent graduate of the University of Ottawa, in the master of music program in performance. Maciej is also a graduate of the Glenn Gould School of the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. This year, Maciej joins the Pax Christi Cho- rale as a choral lead for their 2018-19 season and will also be joining the St. James Cathe- dral Choir. Hailing from Hamilton, Guard graduat- ed from Wilfrid Laurier University study- ing with mezzo-soprano Kimberly Barber.
