This Canada Day, there are many ways you can come together and celebrate. Communities across Halton are hosting special events and you can find out more information by visiting each municipality's website. Happy Canada Day everyone! 5400 Regional Road 25, Milton Residents looking to have some Canada Day fun need go no further than Bronte this week- end. The Town of Oakville is invit- ing the public to attend Canada Day celebrations at Bronte Heri- tage Waterfront Park on Sunday, July 1. The family-friendly evening event features fun activities and entertainment, food trucks and a fireworks display over Lake On- tario. The celebration, sponsored by Lexus of Oakville, begins at 6 p.m., and includes performances by the High Rendition Jazz Band, the Jonathan Michael Group, in- flatables, food trucks, face paint- ers and activities for kids in the park. The fireworks display will be- gin at 10 p.m., weather permit- ting. "Canada Day is a special time when we come together as a com- munity to showcase our national pride," said Oakville Mayor Rob Burton. "We're excited to continue our family tradition in Oakville by celebrating our nation's birthday with spectacular fireworks." Festivalgoers are encouraged to take the pay-one-way Oakville Transit shuttle to and from Bron- te GO station. The shuttle starts at 5:30 p.m. and runs every 10 minutes. The last shuttle to the park leaves Bronte GO at 9:30 p.m. Shuttle buses back to Bronte GO will depart the park after the fireworks. Shuttle service from Bronte GO station to the park is $3 per person (exact change) regardless of age. Shuttle service leaving the park after the fireworks is free for all riders. This will be the first water- front Canada Day celebration held by the town since the Bronte Business Improvement Area an- nounced in February it could no longer hold the event due to the increasing costs involved. The renowned Canada Day celebration has been held in Bronte Village since 1964. Following the BIA announce- ment, Oakville council voted to spend more than $90,000 to hold the Canada Day celebration for 2018. For more details about this event visit www.oakville.ca. The town is not the only orga- nization holding an event in Bronte. The Bronte Royal Canadian Legion-General Chris Vokes Branch 486 will hold a Bronte Community Canada Day Cele- bration Sunday, July 1 from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. This event is open to the pub- lic, will take place at 79 Jones St., and feature hamburgers, sausag- es and hotdogs, courtesy of the Oakville Lions Club. Thai Senses Restaurant will also be serving up good food and other goodies include cotton can- dy and snow cones. There will be a vintage ice cream truck on site. Organizers also point out the event will feature a beer and wine garden. "The only one in the area. There will be no tent in Heritage Park this year," they said. The event will feature an all day DJ, music via the Bare Blue Sea Band and the Rubber Band, a line dancing demonstration/les- son and more. Organizers emphasize there is no parking on site and note that after 5 p.m. the roads below Lake- shore Road will be shut down.
