And while teams will drop off over the course of the three-day tournament, the Red Devils are becoming a common sight on the final day. Oakville Trafalgar (OT) won its third straight OF- SAA medal, defeating Kingston's Regiopolis Notre Dame 23-17 in the bronze- medal game. "If you have a really good team, you might get (medals) two years," Schaffler said. "Three is not very common. That's pretty impressive." OT, which won its first OFSAA gold in 33 years last season, has now won gold, silver and bronze in the past three years. But its bid to re- peat was derailed by unfor- tunate seeding and a veteran Medway team. Oakville Trafalgar went into the tournament as the fourth seed, which meant afourth seed, which meant af semifinal meeting with top- ranked Medway. That be- came an even bigger factor after both the No. 2 (Lorne Park) and No. 3 (Dunbarton) seeds were upset in the quar- ter-finals. Instead the highest two remaining seeds met in the semifinals where Medway scored a 20-0 victory. "They were a big physical team and they were able to contain us," Schaffler said. "They had six super seniors (returning Grade 12s) in their lineup and we had four Grade 10s." As much as missing out on a third straight OFSAA final stung, OT's veteransfinal stung, OT's veteransf rallied the team. "They helped pull the guys together," Schaffler said. "They still wanted to end on a high and win that last one." Oakville Trafalgar built an early lead in the bronze medal game and despite playing the last 14 minutes a man down after receiving a second yellow card, the Red Devils held off their oppo- nents for the win. Jack Porter had a pair of tries in the final and Harry Hibbert added another for OT. The Red Devils opened the tournament with a 65-0 win over St. Peter. That set up a rematch with Thomas A. Stewart, which had edged OT 8-7 earlier in the year. OT avenged the loss with a 21-12 victory, but that's where the war of attrition be- gan. Already down a couple of players from the opening game, the Red Devils lost vet- eran Jack Howden to injury. OT showed its depth, though. Grade 12s Sam Hib- bert and Andrew Easson turned in strong games in the bronze medal match as did Domenic Johnson, the only member of the Red Dev- ils to be a part of all three medal-winning teams. Har- ry Hibbert, a Grade 10 stu- dent who moved into the starting lineup after How- den's injury, was named the man of the match. And though OT will lose some key players to gradua- tion, Schaffler isn't ruling out a run at a fourth straight medal. "At least half of the team comes back, the (Grade) 10s we brought up played very well and our juniors had a strong season," he said.
