Progressive Conserva- tive candidate Stephen Crawford emerged victori- ous in the Oakville riding following last Thursday'sfollowing last Thursday'sf provincial election. The day saw not only the toppling of Liberal in- cumbent Kevin Flynn, who had held the position of Oakville MPP since 2003, but also the resignation of Kathleen Wynne as Onta- rio Liberal party leader and the rise of a PC major- ity government. The mood was jubilant at Crawford's campaign headquarters at 67 Lake- shore Rd., W., as news of PC victories rolled in. Rooms were packed to bursting with PC support- ers and volunteers who crowded around the televi- sion to view the incoming results. Crawford took an imme- diate lead shortly after the polls closed at 9 p.m. With just seven polls re- porting Crawford had 2,650 votes, Flynn 2,415, NDP candidate Lesley Sprague 883, Green party candidate Emily De Sousa 237 and Libertarian Spencer Ok- lobdzija 23. Crawford's lead in- creased as the evening con- tinued eventually getting to the point where it was clear Flynn would not overtake him.
