Verulam, Dec. 13th, 1880.
Council met pursuant to adjournment. The Reeve, Dep'y Reeve, and Councillors Bredin, Thurston and Kelly were present. Minutes of last meeting read and confirmed.
Moved by John Junkin, seconded by John Bredin,--That Jonas Thurston be paid eight dollars in error in the taxes, being difference between Assessment notice and roll.--Carried.
Moved by John Kelly, seconded by John Bredin,--That Charles Trude be allowed $2 abatement in statute labor.--Carried.
Moved by Wm. Thurston, seconded by John Kelly,--That Alex. Bell be refunded $1 error in statute labor, and Robt. Thurston $3 for statute labor charged against him already performed.--Carried.
Moved by John Bredin, seconded by Wm. Thurston,--That William Kennedy by paid $2 12, error in assessment.--Carried.
Moved by John Bredin, seconded by John Kelly,--That a by-law be read and passed extending the time for the collection of unpaid taxes and return of the Collector's Roll for 1880.--Carried.
Moved by John Kelly, seconded by John Bredin,--That $2 be paid to John Metcalf, error in assessing farmer's son.--Carried.
Moved by Wm. Thurston, seconded by John Bredin,--That the Reeve and Clerk be authorized to sign and attach the corporate seal to a memorial to the Ontario Legislature praying for certain improvements in the navigation of the Scugog river.--Carried.
Moved by John Kelly, seconded by Wm. Thurston,--That Richard Middleton, Collector for 1879, and his sureties be relieved from their bond, and said bond be delivered to him.--Carried.
Moved Thurston, seconded Bredin, That the Reeve and Clerk sign a Memorial, and attach the corporate seal thereto, praying the Ontario Government to grant a subsidy in aid of the Grand Junction Railway to Bobcaygeon, and this Council send a deputation to present the said memorial.--Carried.
Moved Kelly, seconded Thurston,--That the following accounts be paid, and orders drawn on the Treasurer for the same, viz. E. Thurston, planking bridge South Dunsford, $13; Elijah Oliver, work on roads, $16; on contract, $18; Chas. Fairbairn, sessional allowance, $15; John Junkin, sessional allowance, $15; John Bredin, sessional allowance, $15; commission, $3; John Kelly, sessional allowance, $15; commission, $3; Wm. Thurston, sessional allowance, $15; commission, $4 50; John Junkin, inspecting, $1 50; John Bredin, inspecting, $1 50; The Clerk, quarter salary, $25; Parliamentary Voters' Lists, and searching Collectors' sureties, $12; The Postmaster, Bobcaygeon, postage to date, 85c.; Thos. Ellis, constable at municipal election, $1; Robson & Robson, repairs to road scraper, $1; J. H. Thompson, blanks & stationary, $10 16; W. B. Read, salary as treasurer, $40.
Moved by Mr. Kelly, seconded by Mr. Junkin, That John McFeeters be allowed $4, error in assessment.--Carried.
On motion of Mr. Kelly the Council adjourned.
