Dwyer entered the following protest against the return of Aldermen Birkett and Currier in St. George‘s Ward : Mr. W. P. Lett, City Clerk and. Returning Officer : Sir,â€"You are hereby notified that I, John Henry Dwyer, an elector of the City of Ottawa, do hereby protest the election of Thomas Birkett, of the City of Ottawa, for the office of alderman for the said City of Ottawa, for the year A. D. 1877, on the grounds of disqualification, and that the said eleciinn has been illegally carried, and, therefor, contrary to the law and constitution of our country. The mesting was opened by prayers offered up by the Rev. Mr. CAmpheli at the request ot the Rev. Mr. Young, pastor of the church."
