D. A. Macdonald, Postmaster Gen» gral. The charge substantially is that during a certain period, namely, the year» 1867, ‘63 and ‘69, that gentleman had made and repeated overtures to Sir John A Macdonald for the purpose of procurs ing an official position in the Gorernment of tie latter. We had seen this stateâ€" ment made before in less pretentious quarâ€" ters, but had passed it over as not worthy DeCosmos, until a few weeks ago, â€" was leader of the Provincial Government, and as such commanded a large working maâ€"~ jority in the Legislative Assembly. At the late general election, owing to the operation of the law against dual repreâ€" sentation, he had to make a choice be. tween the Local Legislature and the Fedâ€" eral Parliament. . He decided in tavour of the larger arena;â€"and forthwith, of his own accord, gned his place in the Local Government and Legislature, ani was at once ietfirned at the head of the poll, in the most populous constituency in â€" the . Province. Moreover, Mr. Walkem, now Premier of British Colum bia, who was Attorney General in the Deâ€" Cosmos admiaistration, and in whose favor Mr. DeCosmos resigned, still holds the majority the latter commanded when he was at the helm. It therefore astonishes us not a little when Mr. Dewdney heralds torth such a statement as we have referred to. It Mr. DeCosmos, tor whom his friends claim that he is the Father of Reponsible Government in British Columbia, does not command the confidance of the people 6 that Province, who does?
