OWNOMWWNWâ€WMOW ., Wednesday evening last was Past- masters' Night at Golden Beaver Lodge A.F. & ALM. and a very pleas- ant and inspiring evening was spent by the brethren. There was former Masters of the Lodges in the District present and these conducted the work Among the Pas/tmasters present were Messrs. J. Mason, G. Bannerman, W. M. Widdifield, of Porcupine Lodge; W. F. B. Cadman, ISturgeon Lodge; H. Webb, E. L. Longmore, G. R. Vary, and C. G. Williams, P.D.D.Cr.M., Gold- en Beaver Lodge. Refreshments were served after the work of the Lodge and a pleasant social time enjoyed; ierms "'p'uppyeock, pure and simple." Then, with characteristic. weak.haelr- edness, ti turns to land the people and industries here. The Nugget has neither the fair sense to play straight nor the courage to be crooked. The Nugget has 'pei'siseritly "knoelr. ed†and misrepresented the For- cupine. but the Cobalt paper need not flatter itself that it is giving; the peo- ple here any particular worry. They are fretted little more than by any other plh)!’ joke at, a minstre,l show. The Porcupine certainly does not ask The Nugget to treat the people and industries here like that paper treats the Cobalt mines. People here do not. wish the abject, slavish, Graven eon- ev son. Carson’s wonderful work was the feature of the game. The Soo team has played flne ho- ekey throughout the season, but Var- sity sure has the 'better team. The Soo need not be ashamed of the de- feat. They carried along well the honors of the North Land, and put up a game bottle. Next year the North Land, by getting into the game ear- lier and staying right through, can make a better showing. Hockey fans here at this closing part of the season wish to express their appreciation and thanks to the Hamilton B. Wills Co., and to IMessrs A. 1tid'deill, S. Shankman, R. Richard- son and the others whose good work, given for'love of the sport, made possible the unusually good special wire service here during the season for reporting hockey games at. outside points. TIMMIIS NEWS IN BRIEF ALL WELCOME ACCUSED or THEFTS PROM ST. MARY‘S HOSPITAL. This week Hillaire Breton, 19 years of age, whose home is at Black Lake, Quebec, but who for some 16 days was an orderly at St. Mary's Hos- pital here, left the town and with him it was thought. went a number of ar- ticles belonging to the Sisters, to .pa- tients and to others. These articles i luded a watch. belonging to a pa- tient; an electric massage machine: a leather club bag, brush and comb, and bathrobe taken from the hospital; a pair of shoes owned by a patient: and a mat. from a local hotel. The total value of the articles taken woald run around $100.00. The police were no- tified of the thefts and Provincial 0f- fieer Moore being informed picked up the young, man at South Porcupine. The goods in question were' found in his possession, and to the police the young fellow suggested that he did not want to steal but that he wished to go home and he wanted the folks at home to think he had good clothes, ete., and was doing w"ell, though as a matter of fact he was not doing so well at all. Two cheques were also found in his possession, one of them endorsed though the police have doubts as to whether the man whose name appears actually did the endors- ing. Just what the young fellow was doing with these eheques is being fur- ther enquired into. To the police Breton said he had no intention of cashing: them, but simply was carry- ing, them to show he had lots of money on him.
