"Such an Institution Would Be of Help And Inspiration to Young la ; And Old. » TIMMIXS 5800L0 HAVE A €000 PUBLIG LIBRARY Mr..£, 8. €Carter, Principal of the Timmins Public School, is enthusiasâ€" tically advocating a public library for the town of Timmins. He has given the matter considerable thought and study and few will be inclined to ques tion the acceuracy of bis findings or deny the very noteworthy benefits that would acerue to the Town through the establishment of a libraâ€" ry here. As Mr. Carter suggests not only would a library fill a longâ€"felt warnt in providing reading matter for those desiring this pleasure and profit, but it would also assist in curbing a real and growing evil, by replacing the trashy and pernicious literature used by too many, especially young people with reading matter that would prove just as interesting but would have an elevating rather than a deâ€" grading influence. So long as books and papers of any kind are available people will read. If good literature is not available, then less desirable reading will be resorted to. This is, perhaps, especially true of young peoâ€" ple whe havesa fancy for the pleasâ€" ures of reading. There are young peo pAg in this town who take particular enjoyment in seading. But under pre sent conditions good literature is not available for thertn in quantities to sup ply the demand of their desires. To buy the better elass of readin# matter 13, Rowever, a 1FIL, CuCad and oftentimes evil type 0 that is more easily availab of its low price. It is a typ ing matter from which no be expected. To supply the leâ€" gitimate wants and needs of the young people in this line it would be well worth the while of the Town of Timmins to establish a public library here. In addition there is the general public accommodation and benefit to be considered. As time goes on, there are more and more people in the town and immediate district who find a pleasure and a benefit in good readâ€" ing. To supply their needs a library ‘s necessary. 4 Iroquois Falls and Cochrane are both making plans and preparations to establish public libraries. These other two towns of this part of the North Land recognize the need. The need is as great or greater in Timâ€" mins. ‘This town should not lag beâ€" hind Cochrane and the Falls in any good work like this. In most towns the chief difficulty re garding a public likrary is the matter of a building heated and caredâ€"for. In Timmins this difficulty could be overcome at practically no expense bx the use of the Public School building. In ease a library were .established here half the ecst of its maintenance would be defrayed ‘by the Ontario EuD sparks at a great rate. some 0 in an alarm from the box near the brigade were on the scene )1( 1) nney fire.‘‘ The chim ifclean without any hs or anv danger or dama uD Natural .. $87.50 wou ul Netural and n Marshallâ€"Ecclestone Limited : were could U exDé TV MW a V nent w [] d uC ibou ns tel pJ rogte )WIn n C iy, id n( 1N N1 m e und Large Double Fumed Oak China $TS8:00. fOr :y!....2...¢{.ikiaic.
