Six appllcations for the job were received, ranging in price from $16 a week to $25 a week. All these apâ€" plications were received on the 12 bhour shift basis. The question then arose as to wheâ€" ther it would be better to hire one mzan to work a twelve hour shift opâ€" posite Engineer Shannon or to hire two men and work three shifts of eight hours apiece. With the starting up of the artifiâ€" cial ice plant it will be necessary for the pump house to run twentyâ€"four hours a day, consequently another Engineer at least has to ‘be hired. After much talking the matter was left in abevance for a few days. The jury found that in view of all the evidence which was submitted at the inquest, they had no choice but to clear the‘ driver of any charges of reckless and careless driving which might have _ been levelled at him. It was brought out in their verdict that the two men had no badge of authority to show that they were engaged in directing traffic at that point. They recomâ€" mended that the provincial highâ€" ways provide that a watchman emâ€" ployed on, any road construction work for this purpose be provided with flags in the daytime and red lamps at night. They further urged that these men be placed at a greatâ€" er distance from the danger points than they are at the present time.
